Case Study: Modernizing Analytics at Scale for a Leading American Motorcycle Manufacturer

Kanerika is a privately held data and AI consulting firm founded in 2015 by Samidha Garud, its CEO, and Bhupendra Chopra, its chief revenue officer. It is headquartered in Austin, Texas, and now operates six offices across the United States, India and Singapore. LinkedIn places it in the 201–500 employee category, with approximately 350 employees listed. Kanerika company history, LinkedIn profile

It specializes in helping large companies replace older data and analytics systems with modern cloud platforms. Its work covers:

  • Data migration and modernization
  • Data engineering, integration and governance
  • Business intelligence and analytics
  • Automation, machine learning and agentic AI
  • Staff training and post-deployment support

It is closely aligned with Microsoft, as a Microsoft Solutions Partner for Data and AI and a Microsoft Fabric Featured Partner, working across Fabric, Azure, Power BI, Purview and Copilot. It also partners with Databricks and Snowflake and has solutions listed through Microsoft Marketplace. The company has also developed FLIP, an agentic migration platform designed to automate parts of the process of of moving companies away from tools such as Alteryx, Tableau, Informatica and Oracle.

Kanerika migrated the manufacturer’s legacy Alteryx workflows and Tableau dashboards to a fully governed Microsoft Fabric and Power BI environment. The engagement consolidated analytics on a single platform, established a medallion data architecture and supported enterprise-wide adoption, accelerating time to value while significantly reducing costs.

Key Results

$1M+
Annual license savings from retiring legacy tools

$100K+
Microsoft funding secured to support the migration

1 unified platform
For governed, enterprise-wide analytics

3 medallion layers
Bronze, Silver and Gold

A medallion architecture is a system for refining data through three progressively cleaner layers. It’s a data-design pattern named after bronze, silver and gold medals.

LayerWhat it containsMotorcycle-company example
BronzeRaw data preserved exactly as receivedOriginal factory sensor readings, sales files, inventory records and warranty claims
SilverCleaned, standardized and validated dataDuplicate records removed; dates, VINs, model names and dealer codes standardized
GoldBusiness-ready data organized for a specific purposeSales by model, warranty rates, production efficiency and other Power BI metrics

In this project, Fabric pipelines, Dataflows and notebooks now move the data from Bronze through Silver to Gold. Power BI primarily consumes the trusted Gold layer. The advantage is that the company always retains the untouched Bronze data. If a cleaning rule is wrong or reporting requirements change, engineers can rebuild the Silver and Gold layers without having to return to every original system.

The simplest translation is:

Bronze = what arrived
Silver = what has been cleaned
Gold = what the business can confidently use
