Public Safety Canada launches new program, website to address mistaken no-fly issues

An online portal for travellers mistakenly placed on the Canadian no-fly list officially launched today.

Inclusion on the no-fly list by error has been an ongoing problem for business and leisure travellers in Canada for years and the redress system is intended to make these headaches go away. To address issues of similar names and mistaken identities, Public Safety has introduced a new ID number for travellers affected, the Canadian Travel Number (CTN) as part of the new Passenger Protect Program (PPP).

The time has finally come: travelers can now apply for a Canadian Travel Number (CTN).

How it works:

– Visit the website at
Canada.ca/canadian-travel-number
– Complete the application and follow the instructions
– Applying is free and completely voluntary,
– Applications will be processed on a first come, first served basis
– A parent, legal guardian or tutor can apply on behalf of their child(ren) if they are 15 years of age or younger.

Major air carriers (with respect to passenger volume) have already begun the onboarding process to centralized screening and most air carriers are expected to be on-boarded by June 2021. As such, air carriers’ online reservation system will soon be able to accept CTNs for flights to, from and/or within Canada.

To find out more and/or to apply, visit: Canada.ca/canadian-travel-number.

To find out more about the Passenger Protect Program (PPP) as a whole, who to contact for travel delays beyond the scope of the PPP or the Secure Air Travel Act, a video about how to apply for a CTN and an information graphic explaining how the CTN works within centralized screening, visit Canada.ca/passenger-protect and follow Public Safety Canada’s official Twitter account @Safety_Canada.
