Workday TV spot turns Phil Mickelson into a caddie-cum-CEO whisperer

His nickname on the golf course may be “Lefty,” but in a TV commercial for cloud-based financial and HR application provider Workday, Phil Mickelson has been cast as a busy CEO’s right-hand man.

‘Business Caddie’ also includes Andy Buckley, known for his work on The Office and Jurassic World, in which the leader of a large firm explains the power of having technology that can help identify issues and offer insights. Much like a caddie knows exactly which golf clubs to bring out for a particular shot, Mickelson becomes a walking, talking personification of Workday’s tools for enterprise executives.

Workday began airing the clip, which was produced by 215 McCann, ahead of the Ryder Cup tournament in late September. At its recent Workday Rising conference in Las Vegas, meanwhile, the company released People Analytics, which it said would use machine learning to study employee patterns and find connections, predict the most important issue to see and explain workplace trends in a narrative powered by natural language generation.
